Case Study - Rumour Mill Creative
Posted on 25th July 2024
Owned and run by seasoned marketing professional, Lisa-Jane Grey, The Rumour Mill Creative was born in Oxfordshire at the end of 2021, before moving to Stratford Upon Avon in Warwickshire.
About Rumour Mill Creative
Lisa-Jane works with a diverse client base of UK and international businesses to plan and deliver a range of communication and creative services. These span traditional and digital marketing, branding and event management, and more.
Working alongside a collective of freelancers, The Rumour Mill Creative (RMC) can combine as few or as many of these services as required, to create a bespoke outsourced marketing package for each individual client. This includes acting as a company’s full-service virtual marketing department, or Lisa-Jane taking on the role of virtual Marketing Director.
Background
When Lisa-Jane set up RMC, she drew on her longstanding love of classic art memes to come up with a quirky brand style to reflect her unique take on what a marketing agency should look like. She put together her first website based on this brand image – but after a while realised that, for whatever reason, people just weren’t ‘getting it’.
Lisa-Jane got to know Phil Revill of it’seeze Warwick and Redditch through networking, and often chatted with him about her brand and website. And when she decided it was time for the old website to go, she got in touch with Phil straightaway. However, thanks in part to Phil’s insights and advice, a straightforward redesign soon turned into a complete rebrand!
“Sometimes, it takes someone outside your own business to tell you what you need, as you just get too close to it,” says Lisa-Jane. “I was impressed with Phil’s knowledge and enthusiasm, and the quality of advice he was providing, as well as the nuts and bolts of how it’seeze websites work."
“Phil was very honest with me about my brand image and basically told me it needed shaking up a bit and making into something more disruptive – ‘more punk’ were the exact words he used! So off I went back to the drawing board to respin my brand into the fusion of classic art, striking use of modern graffiti and digital infusion you can see on my new site today.”
Solution and Process
When Lisa-Jane decided to rebrand, the it’seeze web development process had already started. This was put on hold while Lisa-Jane and her team created new artwork and wrote new content for the site, based on the refreshed brand image. Throughout this process, Phil gave advice and direction on refining RMC’s brand and service offering to refocus on problem-solving, and creating a navigational structure to mirror the customer journey.
“Despite our goal of making the brand more fun and playful, the new site still needed to look professional,” comments Lisa-Jane. “Phil provided some of the creative steer that helped us achieve the perfect balance, as well as an enhanced user experience for current and potential clients.”
Once everything was in place, the it’seeze Warwick & Redditch team went back to work to complete the site in line with Phil’s and Lisa-Jane’s shared vision. As always with it’seeze website design projects, there were several meetings along the way to discuss how things were going and make sure the new site stayed in line with the brief. Phil also showed Lisa-Jane how to use the it’seeze Website Editor, an intuitive Content Management System (CMS) that makes it easy to edit, add and delete web pages and blogs.
The new RMC site was built using the it’seeze Max package, which offers an unlimited number of pages after the initial ones have been created. There’s also a built-in blogging section, where Lisa-Jane has already uploaded a couple of articles. The site features integrated social media buttons linking to RMC’s Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and X pages, and there’s a wide range of other integration options Lisa-Jane can add in the future. As always, the it’seeze team fully optimised the site for SEO before it was launched.
Results
Lisa-Jane is delighted with the new RMC website and has already had plenty of positive comments and feedback on the refreshed design. The new site offers the blend of form and function she was looking for, letting the RMC brand personality really shine through. As with many marketing professionals, Lisa-Jane finds it hard to take time away from client work, but with Phil’s support, she felt accountable and able to put time aside for her own business.
She concludes: “Phil and the it’seeze support team have been brilliant from start to finish. Even with the delay whilst I worked on rebranding, the new site was still ready in just three months. Whilst there was nothing really wrong with my old site, it lacked the ‘WOW factor’ and didn’t feel quite like me. Thanks to the rebranding exercise, the new RMC website now does just that and showcases perfectly what our team can do."
“I’d be pleased to recommend it’seeze Warwick & Redditch to any other businesses looking for expert local support with a new or refreshed website. In fact, I’ve already started to send some of my own clients Phil’s way for web hosting and domain management, which shows how impressed I am with the level of service he provides.”
