Case Study - Flying Pig Catering
Posted on 18th November 2024
Founded in London in 2013 by Matt Jaynes, Flying Pig Catering began with humble origins. After years of being a chef in Cotswolds hotels, Birmingham eateries and multiple Michelin-starred London restaurants, Matt started a side project with a hog roast machine and BBQ.
About Flying Pig Catering
Flying Pig Catering quickly became a reputable event catering company providing all levels of food service from food stations, 8-course tasting menus to fire-cooked locally sourced steak table sharers. At the time, Matt was balancing his full-time role as Executive Chef for a London catering company whilst managing and cooking for nationwide events.
This side project gained further momentum when he partnered with Charlotte, an experienced Event Manager, in 2016. Together, they expanded Flying Pig Catering’s scope to include larger corporate events, weddings, and private parties.
Flying Pig Catering is based in Warwick and operates across the UK, whilst also attending events in mainland Europe. Their highly qualified and experienced chefs include those with Michelin star careers, private chefs and chefs from the corporate catering world. The team is completed by talented Event Managers and front of house professionals, and hand-picked service staff.
Background
In the 11 years since the business was established, it had already had two websites before it’seeze became involved. Charlotte designed and built both of these herself: choosing fonts and colours, creating a logo and writing the content. The two original sites were quite basic and the second one didn’t have a contact form – which Charlotte and Matt realised could be holding them back. So, they decided to have a new website professionally designed and developed in 2021.
Charlotte got to know Phil Revill through a mutual friend and decided she wanted it’seeze Warwick and Redditch to create the new site for Flying Pig Catering. They set up a meeting where Charlotte explained that she’d like to keep the existing branding for the business, as brand awareness was building up successfully, but wanted it elevating to a more professional level. Phil agreed with her that a contact form was an essential addition and explained that these are always provided as standard with it’seeze websites.
“Phil took the time to listen to my requirements and ideas for the new site,” says Charlotte. “However, he also made some really useful suggestions around content, imagery and how to improve the navigation structure so people can quickly find the information they want and, crucially, get in touch with us easily. Phil also explained why certain things need to be done in certain ways so you get the best results. He provided some very helpful advice.”
Solution and Process
With a plan now in place, the it’seeze design team went to work to create the new site. The process was collaborative, with Phil keeping Charlotte involved throughout. As requested, the new design concept kept the colours, fonts and logo already associated with the Flying Pig Catering brand, but took everything to a higher level with a unique design, high quality photography and minimal use of stock imagery. Some of the written content from the first two websites was re-spun for the new one, whilst Charlotte also wrote some new copy which incorporated some suggestions from Phil.
“The design and development process went very smoothly and only took around two months,” comments Charlotte. “There were no real issues or problems and just a few minor edits and changes before the site was ready to go live. Phil and the it’seeze team basically did exactly what I’d asked them to do and nothing was too much trouble. I was especially pleased to see the all-important enquiry form featuring on every single page, making it super simple for people to contact us.”
The Flying Pig Catering website was built using the it’seeze Max package, which offers an unlimited number of pages after the initial ones have been created. There’s also a built-in blog, although this isn’t being used as yet. The site features integrated social media buttons linking to the company’s Facebook and Instagram pages, and there are lots of other third party integration options that could be added in the future.
As with all it’seeze websites, the site was fully optimised for SEO before it was launched and offers state of the art security features, built-in performance tools, daily backups and many other useful features.
Results
Since its launch, the new website has had a major impact on Flying Pig Catering. “It really has been invaluable in helping us achieve what we wanted and grow the business in line with our plans,” says Charlotte. “As expected, the new contact form has played a huge role in this success, but the site as a whole has made a big difference. Much of that is down to Phil talking the time and trouble to get under the skin of Flying Pig Catering and understand what we’re all about.”
Whilst Phil has shown Charlotte how to use the it’seeze Website Editor, an intuitive Content Management System (CMS), all changes to date have been made by the it’seeze team. Charlotte has plans to add more content to the site in the near future, including more pictures, menus and profiles of team members. “The it’seeze team always provide fast and responsive customer service,” she comments. “The care and attention to detail have been excellent since day one, and I’m very grateful for their support.”
Charlotte concludes “I’d be pleased to recommend it’seeze Warwick & Redditch to any other businesses looking for expert local support with a new or updated website. Over the last couple of years, I’ve made several referrals to Phil from my contacts, and they’ve all been just as happy with it’seeze’s services as Matt and I.”
